Google has officially scheduled its annual Made by Google event for August 20, where it is likely to debut its next-generation hardware innovations. Among all possible launches is the Google Pixel Watch 4. While previous industry reports hinted at the lack of major hardware upgrades, the new update suggests the upcoming Google smartwatch could bring additional health tracking features. A recently surfaced rumor hints that the Mountain View-based tech giant will offer its purported smartwatch with a continuous SpO2 tracking capability so that users can keep an eye on potential breathing problems.
Android Headlines reported on the new feature expected to debut with the Pixel Watch 4. The smartwatch is said to come with a new Breathing Emergencies Alert feature. It is rumored to use the SpO2 sensor on the back of the watch to continuously monitor the blood oxygen levels and alert the user if they fall below the required level.
This feature is anticipated to be built upon the Loss of Pulse feature, which Google provided in the Pixel Watch the previous year. It measures the wearer’s heart rate and automatically contacts emergency services in case of abnormalities or if no heartbeat at all is detected.
As per the information by Google, this result can be due to various factors like pulmonary cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose, or poisoning.
In terms of design and hardware components, the upcoming Google Pixel 4 smartwatch will be largely similar to the current Pixel Watch 3. It could sport the same Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset that the company has been using for the last two generations of Google Pixel smartwatches.
The Pixel Watch 4 is said to be available in 41mm and 45mm size options, with Bluetooth and LTE connectivity features. However, a notable upgrade could be the repairability of this device. Reports claim that the Pixel Watch 4 finally allows repairs, which is missing in existing devices. Additionally, the Pixel Watch 4 41mm variant will get a 327mAh battery, and the 45mm variant will house a 420mAh battery pack.
